[2010-11-12] Activity in the library according to the project “Knowledge, Work – Future”

A.Zalatorius wrote “from good literature creation we can drink like from the source of the mountain and it will never exhaust. It is important to dive in naked heart throwing away the advance clothes of view and to dive into the new unknown world having own logic and religion”.

Seeking to educate the foreigners granted asylum the consulting activity is organized in the library of the Refugees Reception Center according to the project “Knowledge, Work – Future” (the perennial program of the European Refugee Fund in Lithuania of 2008-2013 and the annual program of the European Refugee Fund in Lithuania of 2008).

Consulting in the library is available for all foreigners granted asylum: adults and children. The specialists working in the library plans the activity. He provides the consulting on choice of the books and search for information in internet, helps the foreigners granted asylum to read periodical and special literature. Once a week the specialist organizes various discussions, the themes are discussed with the foreigners granted asylum. The specialists of the institution are invited to the discussions. This autumn there were discussed on the following themes: “What do we prepare for winter”, “My and your country”, “Where eyes guide”, “Autumn goodies”, “How to use information”, “How to use dictionaries”, “Advent in Lithuania”, “Cleanliness and health” etc . The inhabitants of the Center don’ avoidn the discussions also about literature. World fiction is known for many of us but the literature of the country of origin of the foreigners granted asylum is known only for narrow circle of the people. The specialists of the Center participate willingly in talkings about literature during which the foreigners present literature “pearls” of own nation. Litareature creations of the different nations, various books in Lithuanian and foreign languages are also available in the library of the Center. The fund of the Refugees Reception Center was renewed in 2008 according to the project “Active Integration Today – Success Tomorrow”. The library was complemented with encyclopedias, dictionaries, fiction, publicistic, nonfiction literature.

All children of the world liked and like tales all the time. The children of the foreigners granted asylum is not an exeption. The specialist reads tales together with the children, later stimulates the children to analyse them, to draw the heroes of the tales. The literature for the children is read and analysed educating them, collaborating with the other specialists of the Center, for example with the specialist on the education of the children of the project, the psychologist of the Center.

Modern technologies attract the children also. They watch willingly animation movies. School-aged children, adult foreigners use willingly internet, search for the job in internet, information about economic situation in Lithuania, use skype communicating with the relatives and friends in the other countries.

Family planning is actual for the foreigners women living in the Refugees Reception Center. They don’t avoid discussions on children education theme, health care matters, exchange experience.

Women and men are interested in history, culture, customs, traditions of Lithuania. The most actual theme of the discussions – integration of the foreigners granted asylum into the Lithuanian society, the peculiarities of the intergation into the labour market of Lithuania.

The school-aged children were interested in the search for the information in the internet which helped them not only to expand the scope but also to prepare home works.

The specialist of the Center enjoy that implemented activity helps the foreigners granted asylum integrating into the Lithuanian society.
