Language is one of the most well-known forms of the communication among the people, so the main components of the successful communication are the wish to be understood and to understand the others.

Lithuanian language courses are organized in the Refugees Reception Centre for the adult foreigners granted asylum. The course continuous 190 hours. It is taught according to the program “Po truputį” by M. Ramonienė, L. Vilkienė. After the courses the foreigners granted asylum pass the exam of the state language of the first stage. If the foreigner doesn’t pass the exam of the state language of the first stage, there is organized the revision of the course of 96 hours.

School-aged children have possibility to attend the comprehensive schools. There are organized extra Lithuanian language courses in the Center. The unaccompanied minors are taught according to the program “Nė dienos- be lietuvių kalbos” by V. Stumbrienė, A. Kaškelevičienė of 190 hours. The children are taught according to the programs “Raktelis” and “Spindulėlis” by R. Skripkienė of 140 hours.

In September, 2004, the innovation was brought into the activity – computer-assisted Lithuanian language training.

After the courses the foreigners understand and use well-known word expressions and very simple phrases for the fulfilment of the particular needs; the foreigners are able to introduce themselves, to ask personal questions and to answer these questions, to speak using simple sentences.

The foreigners living in the Center must study the Lithuanian language for the easier further integration into the society.
